Benefits
of Partnership
Partner agencies are able to access quality donated food
and non-food products at an aggregate cost of about $.09 per
pound (based on a combination of free products and products
at the $.18 per pound shared maintenance fee).
Products can be selected from a continuously updated inventory.
In some cases, delivery can be arranged.
Each year, Second Harvest Food Bank partner agencies save
millions of dollars by receiving some or all of their food
at the Food Bank. These savings can be used by the agencies
to shelter, treat, train, counsel, protect, educate, rehabilitate,
house, and comfort more individuals and families than would
have been possible when buying food in a store.
Partner agency staff and volunteers can receive training
in SafeStaff food handling conducted by Second Harvest Food
Bank staff members who are Certified Florida Food Managers.
The Food Bank also offers periodic workshops and presentations
on nutrition and food preparation.
Partner agencies are organized into regional groups to facilitate
information sharing, problem solving, and support. The groups
meet annually at different agencies within the region.
Weekly e-mails are sent to all agencies (and a postcard to
agencies without e-mail) highlighting current products available
at the Food Bank, upcoming trainings, special events, advocacy
opportunities on hunger-related issues, and information from
other organizations of use to the agencies and their clients.
