Since August 1997, the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida has operated a branch warehouse location to better serve agencies in Volusia County.  Since that time, the amount of donated food flowing to Volusia agencies has increased from 146,000 pounds per year to more than 1 million pounds in fiscal year 2000-01.  The Volusia Branch is located at 330 North Street in Daytona Beach, and is open for partner agency shopping every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

In addition to helping alleviate the “daily disaster” that hunger and poverty represents for thousands of Volusia residents, the Volusia Branch also plays an important role when natural disasters strike. Just three months after opening its doors, the Branch was able to supply 3,397 pounds of food and related items to the Red Cross when a tornado struck New Smyrna Beach.

For more information on the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida’s  Volusia Branch, please call Branch Manager Mary Lloyd at (386) 257-4499.
