Second Helpings works together with local hotels, resorts, theme parks, restaurants, convention centers, and convenience stores to pick up food that has been prepared, but never served. Food is picked up directly from commercial kitchens, and is delivered to more than 60 local nonprofit agencies who serve meals at their locations.
Everything from appetizers, to entrees, to side dishes are combined for this creative food rescue which transforms roasted chicken into chicken pot pie and prime rib into beef stew.
Within the program, three refrigerated trucks operate a total of 160 hours per week providing prepared food donors with a welcome alternative to dumping their excess food items. The third truck, operated by the Disney Harvest Program and working with donors on Disney property, is also administered by the Second Helpings staff.
If you are interested in donating your prepared food to the Second Helpings Program, pickups can be arranged at your business or facility. Second Helpings accepts donations from donors that are regulated food businesses.
