Help us Feed the Need tThe number of people seeking food assistance in our community continues to rise. Today, the number of kids living below the federal poverty level in Florida has reached 969,000, or nearly one in four– a 4 percent increase over last year. In response to this growing need, the Winter Park community is renewing its effort to end hunger in Central Florida. The 3rd annual Feed the Need campaign, presented by Florida Distributing, Mayflower Retirement Community and Winter Park Memorial Hospital, is not your average food drive. It is an unprecedented communitywide effort to raise funds for Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.

In the campaign’s second year, over $100,000 was raised in just 22 days. That is the equivalent of over 400,000 meals for our neighbors in need. Stretched over a long, thin dinner table with place settings three feet apart, that’s enough meals to stretch from Winter Park to Miami Beach.

The Feed the Need campaign will officially kick-off on Monday, November 2, at City Hall with campaign partners, including City of Winter Park, Rollins College, Sodexo, Think Creative and Winter Park Chamber of Commerce.

Between Nov 2 through Friday, November 20, the campaign will unite local residents, businesses, faith communities and civic groups through online giving, friendly competitions, community events and individual fundraising efforts, with one mission in mind: to feed the need.
